RIGA, Aug 27 (LETA) - The annual isolated operation test of the Kaliningrad region's electricity system, which is scheduled for September 14, will not affect power supply and electricity prices in the Baltic states, representatives of Latvian power transmission system operator (TSO) Augstsprieguma Tikls (AST) informed LETA.

ccording to the company's representatives, ensuring the reliability of the power grid and the transmission of electricity to consumers is part of the Baltic TSOs' daily work, which will not be affected by the planned test in the Russian exclave.

t the same time, the Baltic TSOs continue to constantly monitor the energy system. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Baltic states completely stopped trading electricity with Russia in 2022, so electricity prices will not be affected by the test.

Lithuanian TSO Litgrid has been informed about the planned test by the Russian TSO. The last such test in Kaliningrad was carried out last year during the same test in Lithuania. Similar tests in the Russian enclave were also carried out in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

In July, the Baltic TSOs notified the Russian and Belarusian TSOs of their decision not to renew of the BRELL contract, and the contract, which defines the principles of the operation of the Baltic power systems within the Russian-controlled IPS/UPS system, will expire in February 2025.

The Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian systems are scheduled to be disconnected from the Russian system on February 8 and the first joint isolated operation test will begin, and their connection to the European synchronous area is scheduled for February 9, 2025.
